MOVEMENT™ Great Toe System

The Ascension MOVEMENT™ Great Toe System allows intraoperative Flexibility.  The system contains a total and hemi resurfacing implants for both sides of the joint in one instrument set.  The total implant components can be mismatched for an anatomical fit .  The system is cannulated for ease of implantation.  The conical reaming maintains tissue attachments and sesamoid apparatus while allowing for minimal bone resection and pathway for revision.  The  dorsal metatarsal cut guide allows for precise cheilectomy of dorsal osteophytes when implanting the metatarsal component.

Indications for implant arthroplasty are painful arthritic joints that are deemed to be non-salvageable with joint preservation techniques. This includes degenerative arthrosis of the first MTP joint associated with:

  • Hallux rigidus
  • Hallux valgus
  • Postsurgical arthrosis
  • Chronic joint pain
  • Unstable or painful metatarsal/phalangeal (MTP) joint

Patients should be evaluated regarding pathologic indications for implant arthroplasty as well as alternative surgical
treatment including: cheilectomy with preservation type osteotomy, resection arthroplasty and first MTP joint arthrodesis.

Hemi-Arthroplasty

The Ascension MOVEMENT Great Toe System hemi arthroplasty consists of a metatarsal component and a phalengeal component designed for resurfacing the 1st metatarsal head or the base of the proximal phalanx. The metatarsal and phalangeal components are used as hemi-arthroplasties as an uncemented joint treatment of patients with arthritis in the first metatarsal joint in the presence of good bone stock.

Total Arthroplasty

The total arthroplasty is a two-piece implant that is intended to be used as prosthesis for the metatarso-phalangeal joint (MTP). The device is intended for cemented use only.

Indications for use include:

  • Painful degenerative metatarso-phalangeal joint change
  • Hallux rigidus stage 3 and 4
  • Hallux valgus and hallux rigidus
  • Hallux limitus with painful arthrofibrosis
  • Revisions after moderate proximal phalanx resection

Contraindications to implant arthroplasty would include poor bone stock, poor soft tissue coverage, and joint infection or osteomyelitis. Of particular importance is the patient with rheumatoid arthritis or gout who may possess a poor bone stock that will not retain the implant very well. This is a press-fit device and adequate bone stock is necessary for maintenance of implant stability.

Features:

  • Hemi resurfacing implants for both sides of the joint in one instrument set.
  • Cannulated system for ease of implantation.
  • Conical reaming maintains tissue attachments and sesamoid apparatus while allowing for minimal bone resection and pathway for revision.
  • Dorsal metatarsal cutting guide allows for precise cheilectomy of dorsal osteophytes when implanting the metatarsal component.
