Ascension PyroCarbon MCP

Restored Joint function

Anatomic Design:

Anatomic Implant shape and easy-to use instrumentation promote implant alignment, stability and restored joint kinematics

  • Bone removal is minimized

  • Critical soft tissue structures are preserved

  • Anatomic bone alignment is restored

  • Functional joint mechanics and range of motion are re-established

Indications :

The Ascension MCP is intended for use as a total joint replacement of the metacarpal phalangeal (MCP) joints in cases of:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Post-traumatic arthritis
  • Ankylosed joints or those with limited range of motion which have not responded to conservative treatment
  • Nonfunctional joints due to inadequate bony alignment and joint space which can not be restored by soft tissue reconstruction
  • Destroyed articular surfaces

Contraindications:

Include:

  • Physiologically unsuitable patient
  • Skin, bone, circulatory and/or neurological deficiency
  • Non-functioning and irreparable musculotendinous system
  • Indications of active sepsis or infection
  • Inadequate bone stock

Implant Stability:

PyroCarbon's biochemical and biomechanical compatibility promotes osseous integration resulting in a stable bone/implant interface

  • inert nature of PyroCarbon eliminates concern with silicone and other less biocompatible materials
  • No cement required eliminating potential complications

Elastic Modulus of metal is much greater than that of bone or PyroCarbon

PyroCarbon minimizes bone loss due to stress shielding
