RESORBABLE PROTECTIVE SHEET
Advancing Repair in a Vast Range of Applications
Successful tendon and nerve repair hinges on the ability to maintain gliding during the healing process. In addition nerve protection and adequate repair reinforcement are imperative for
optimal results. With the introduction of Ascension’s versatile Flexiglide sheets, support for tendons, nerves and soft tissue can be easily achieved and adhesions virtually eliminated. From straight forward stabilization to complex repair, the possibilities for use are limitless.
The way Flexiglide works is simple: sheets of protective film are wrapped or sutured into place at the time of surgery to protect or support the soft tissue, tendon, or nerve and minimizes post-op tissue attachments. Flexiglide begins to resorb 10 weeks into the healing process. The 0.2mm thick flexible film is made from translucent bio-polymer available in both 2x3cm and 5x7cm sheets.
Here are a few reported applications:
Tenolysis revision procedure: wrap the Achilles tendon with two small sheets to prevent adhesions.
Carpal Tunnel revision procedure: wrap around the median nerve to reduce scar tissue formation
Direct end-to-end repair on a severed nerve: wrap around an end to end repair to prevent neuroma formation
End-to–end Ulnar nerve repair: used as a nerve protector to prevent neuroma formation
Cranio-maxillofacial procedures: wrap nerves in mandible to reinforce the nerve repair
Distal radius plate removal: suture directly to the bone to prevent soft tissue irritation
